Why Your Blog Isn’t Getting Traffic – 4 Fixes That Actually Work

April 18, 2025 · In: All Blogging Posts, Blogging, Content Creator Tips, Grow your Blog

This post contains affiliate links. This means I will make a commission at no extra cost to you should you click through and make a purchase. Read the full disclosure here.

Wondering, “Why is my blog not getting traffic?” You’re not alone.

It’s frustrating to spend hours creating content… and see no one reading it. I’ve been there—stuck with zero views, confused about what I was doing wrong.

But the truth is: most beginner bloggers miss a few simple steps that can make a huge difference.

In this post, I’ll share 4 key fixes that helped me go from no blog traffic to consistent, free traffic—using tools like Google Search Console, Google Trends, and Pinterest.

Why Your Blog Isn’t Getting Traffic

If you’re struggling to get traffic to your blog, you might be missing a few key pieces of the puzzle. It’s super frustrating to put in a ton of work to get traffic to your blog and not see any results for weeks or months.

In fact, low traffic is one of the main reasons that bloggers quit blogging!

Let’s dive into some of the most common reasons your blog isn’t getting noticed and how you can fix them.

1. You’re Skipping SEO Basics

SEO (AKA Search Engine Optimization) is a critical factor in whether your blog ranks well on search engines like Google. It also has a factor for getting blog traffic from Pinterest!

Without proper SEO, your content might not be visible to your target audience.

What You’re Missing:

You’re likely not optimizing your blog posts for the right keywords, creating strong meta descriptions, or using internal and external links. These are all important elements of on-page SEO.

How to Fix It:

Start by researching keywords your audience is searching for and incorporate them naturally into your blog posts. Use SEO plugins like RankMath to guide you in optimizing content.

Remember to focus on creating high-quality content that answers your audience’s questions and provides value!

2. You’re Not Targeting the Right Audience

If you’re writing content, but it doesn’t resonate with the right people, you’ll struggle to get people to read your blog. Knowing your target audience is essential for creating content that attracts and retains readers.

What You’re Missing:

You might be focusing on broad or generic topics, which might not appeal to a specific group of people. Or you may just be writing posts about questions no one has!

It’s important to identify and define your blog niche so you can create targeted content.

How to Fix It:

Get clear on who your ideal readers are and what problems they need solutions for. This is what SEO keyword research is for. You can find out what people are actually searching for.

Once you know what your audience is looking for, you can craft content that speaks directly to them. So make sure you know who your target audience is and what your niche is!

3. You’re Not Posting Consistently

If you want to grow your blog traffic, you need to post more. Consistency is key to building momentum and attracting traffic.

If you’re not publishing new content regularly, your audience may lose interest, and Google may not index your site often enough to rank your posts.

What You’re Missing:

Irregular posting can result in a lack of fresh content for both your readers and search engines to pick up. You also won’t have enough fresh content to share on Pinterest or other social media platforms to keep them happy either!

How to Fix It:

Set a schedule for content creation and stick to it. Whether it’s once a week or biweekly, being consistent helps you stay visible to both search engines and your audience.

Consider creating a content calendar to plan ahead and stay organized. I personally use Asana for my business. It’s a free tool that has really helped me stay on top of posting for both my blog and YouTube channel!

💡Quick Tip

Want to learn about Asana for your business? Asana is the best project planning tool for content creators! I’ve been able to create content calendars for both YT and blogging, and organize my ideas, client work, future projects, and goals inside the platform.

4. Your Internal Linking Structure is Weak

Internal links are a way of connecting one blog post to another within your website.

A strong internal linking structure not only improves SEO but also keeps readers on your site longer, increasing pageviews.

Any time you see me say “Click here to read about XYZ!” That is me linking you to another relevant post on my site!

What You’re Missing:

Without linking to your other blog posts, you’re missing out on the opportunity to keep your audience engaged with more of your content.

This also reduces your SEO potential because search engines might not easily crawl your site.

How to Fix It:

Link to relevant blog posts within your articles to encourage readers to explore more content. It’s also a good idea to create a “related posts” section at the bottom of your posts. (My theme does this automatically.)

This will keep your readers engaged and improve your website’s SEO!

💡 To recap…

If your blog isn’t getting the traffic you expected, the problem may lie in one (or more) of these areas. Improving your SEO, targeting the right audience, posting consistently, promoting your content on places like Pinterest, and strengthening your internal linking will make a huge difference.

Take the time to address each of these points, and you’ll start to see a rise in traffic!

Why is my Blog Not Getting Traffic? (Common Beginner Questions Answered)

First, let’s answer some commonly asked questions about why no one is reading your blog. If you’ve been blogging for a while and you’re wondering about any of these questions, you are not alone!

How long does it take to get blog traffic?

The time it takes is going to vary wildly, depending on a lot of various factors.

I wish I could tell you if you posted every week, you’d start to see significant traffic in 3 months- but there is no guarantee of that!

It all depends on how well you are promoting your blog, how well-optimized it is for SEO, and how much content you have.

It also depends on how much traffic you’re hoping to get.

You could probably see a small amount of traffic, like 1,000 views a month, quickly, but if you’re hoping for 100k page views- that’s going to take a lot longer!

On average, it can take anywhere from 3-6 months for a new blog to see noticeable traffic. During this time, focus on consistent posting and driving traffic through social media and platforms like Pinterest.

📌 Want Pinterest traffic? Try this!

If you’re hoping to get blog traffic from Pinterest, check out my course Pinterest Simplicity. It’s an in-depth beginner course that tells you everything you need to know about growing your blog traffic with Pinterest!

Is it normal to get no traffic in the beginning?

Yes! In fact, it’s actually normal to have low traffic and blog views when you’re just starting out. It’s way more common for it to take time before your blog starts getting regular readers.

Building traffic takes time. If you’re wondering why your blog isn’t getting traffic and you’ve just started out, it took me months to start seeing good traffic from my blog.

The first traffic I started getting came from Pinterest after I took Pinteresting Strategies, and then the Google traffic came later.

So don’t get discouraged!

How do I get traffic to my blog for free?

There are plenty of ways you can get blog traffic for free. You don’t need to pay at all to grow your blog traffic.

The way that I got started is with Pinterest, as I mentioned, since it’s the easiest.

After that, I started to go after Google Search traffic and worked on my SEO (AKA search engine optimization).

By optimizing your blog posts with relevant keywords and providing valuable content, you can rank higher on Google and attract traffic without paying for ads!

You may also be able to drive traffic from social media, but I don’t use any (Unless you count Pinterest!), and I drive traffic from my YouTube Channel as well.

What should my first blog post be about?

Your first blog post should be something that offers value to your target audience.

A good starting point is a post that addresses a common problem or question that your audience has.

For example, you could write a “Beginner’s Guide to [Your Niche]”. This type of content helps establish your expertise and makes it easier to attract readers through search engines.

Beginner-focused content is the best way to get people to read your blog, and your blog to show up on Google.

Beginners are the ones often looking for answers to questions the most, so writing beginner-focused content in your niche will help you drive more traffic to your blog.

💡IMPORTANT!

One thing you don’t want to write as your first blog post is an introductory post, talking about your blog, your plans, and who you are. That can be saved for your About Me page instead.

Why Your Blog Isn’t Showing Up on Google

Have you ever wondered why your blog isn’t getting traffic from Google? Google is one of the best ways to get people to read your blog for free. However, it can sometimes be difficult to rank and get your blog noticed.

So let’s talk about some of the reasons why your blog isn’t showing up on Google!

Make sure your blog posts are indexed

Google can’t rank your content if it doesn’t even know it exists.

Head over to Google Search Console and submit your blog post URLs to be indexed. This helps speed up the process and lets Google know your content is live.

Once your blog starts ranking on Google, you can also go here to find out what search terms you’re ranking for!

Don’t panic—Google takes time to rank new sites

New blogs usually don’t rank right away. It’s totally normal for posts to take weeks (or even months) to appear in search results.

Google likes to “test” your content and see how people interact with it before pushing it higher. So if you’re not seeing blog traffic from Google just yet and you’re brand new, give it some time!

PSST… This is why I got started with Pinterest traffic first! Since Google can take months to start ranking your site, I used Pinterest to grow my blog traffic faster!

Focus on valuable content that solves real problems

Google wants to show the best answers to people’s questions.

Make sure your blog posts are actually helpful, well-written, and cover a topic your audience is actively searching for. Think: “Does this solve a real problem or answer a real question?”

Don’t forget to use SEO practices like we talked about to test out your ideas first before writing them!

How to Actually Get Blog Traffic (For Free!)

No one wants to pay to get more blog traffic- and you don’t have to! There are plenty of ways to get traffic to your blog for free, so let’s go over them.

Improve your Blog’s SEO (on-page & off-page tips)

SEO and keywords are what help your content show up on Google, which is what we call “Organic traffic.”

Meaning someone looked up the answer to a question, and your blog showed up. It means it was “ranking in search”.

The higher your blog post ranks on the page, the more likely you are to get clicks and traffic to your blog for free!

There are two types of “SEO”. On-page and off-page SEO:

  • On-page SEO is about optimizing your actual blog posts- like using keywords, headers, meta descriptions, and alt text.
  • Off-page SEO includes things like backlinks (when other websites link to you) and building domain authority over time.

It might sound overwhelming, but starting with on-page SEO is totally doable even as a beginner.

Use Keywords Intentionally on your blog

Keywords are what people type into Google. You want to include relevant ones in your title, URL, intro, and throughout the post—but naturally.

Don’t overstuff in the hopes that you’ll get ranked easier- Google can tell and does not like it!

Start by searching for what your audience is asking and use those exact phrases. Tools like Ubersuggest or Google Trends are super helpful here. This is what Ubersuggest looks like:

Why Is My Blog Not Getting Traffic?

You should have one main keyword for your post. For example, mine is “Why is my blog not getting traffic?” for this post.

This is a long-tail keyword (Meaning 3-4+ words) vs a short-tail keyword (1-2 words). Long-tail keywords are more specific and therefore easier to rank for.

I then have a few supporting keywords, so that I can try to rank for more than one term and I avoid over-stuffing the main keyword a bunch of times. So for this post:

  • “How do I get my blog noticed?”
  • “Get traffic to my blog for free”
  • “Get people to read your blog.”
  • “Get blog traffic from Pinterest”

You’ll see those phrases in my blog post title, my meta description (AKA The one that shows up on Google), in the first paragraph, and throughout the post.

Write Content People Are Actually Searching For

This is key: don’t just write what you feel like writing. Create content that solves problems or answers questions your target reader is Googling.

Think:

  • “How to…,”
  • “Best tools for…,”
  • “What I wish I knew before…”

Not sure what to write? Try typing your topic into Google and look at the “People Also Ask” box for ideas. I also go to Pinterest for inspiration!

Leverage Pinterest for Beginner-Friendly Traffic

Pinterest is still one of the easiest ways to get traffic as a new blogger. It’s a visual search engine—so if your pins look good and link to helpful blog posts, you can get clicks even with a brand new site.

📌 Want to learn how to get blog traffic from Pinterest?

This is why I recommend checking out Pinteresting Strategies, an in-depth course that taught me exactly how to drive traffic to my blog using manual pinning (no fancy tools needed). Highly recommend for beginners!

Cross-promote with YouTube, Social Media, or Email

Don’t be afraid to share your content with the world!

Cross-promote content everywhere you can. Share it on socials. If you’re a YouTuber, repurpose that post into a video. That’s what I do!

If you have an email list (or plan to), send out your blog posts there too. It’s a great way to get consistent views from your most engaged followers.

💻 Tool Recommend…

I recommend the email software Kit (Formerly Converkit) for bloggers. I started with them years ago and absolutely love them! It’s a platform for bloggers, made by bloggers, and you can easily create freebies, collect email addresses, and send out campaigns whenever you post something new!

👉🏻 Check out Kit right here!

Tools to Help you get traffic to your blog for free

You don’t need a bunch of fancy tools to get traffic to your blog for free, and you don’t need to pay for ads to get your blog noticed either!

These are all of the tools I use to grow my blog and get traffic with no hassle and no paying!

Pinterest

Are you sick of me bringing up Pinterest yet? Well, I’m not done yet!

Getting blog traffic from Pinterest was the first thing I did to get my blog off the ground. It’s truly the best place for new bloggers to get people to read your blog.

People are going to Pinterest specifically for information. They want to get their questions answered. They want to read blogs.

Pinterest has 530 MILLION users each month. If you don’t think your audience is on there, you’re wrong!

Get blog traffic from Pinterest. 530 million users each month.

Google Search Console

This tool helps you track how your blog appears in Google search.

You can see what keywords you’re ranking for, how often people click on your results, and whether your blog posts are indexed properly.

If a post isn’t showing up in search, this is the first place to check.

Google Analytics

This is one of the first things you should download onto your site. Google Analytics tells you how people are interacting with your site. You’ll see:

  • Which posts are getting the most views
  • How long are people staying?
  • Where your traffic is coming from

This helps you figure out what’s working- and what needs improvement.

Google Trends

Want to write about topics people are actually searching for? Google Trends helps you see what’s trending in real time.

You can compare keyword ideas, discover seasonal content opportunities, and find topics with growing interest.

💡 Quick Tip

Use a combination of these tools to really get ahead and help you get blog traffic for free! These are also good places to go if you need blog post ideas.

I’m using “Nunito Sans”, sans-serif. The font weight is 400 and the size is 20px! I spent a lot of time choosing that and deciding what looked best :)
