Why Your Blog Might Not Be Growing

First, let’s go over some of the reasons why your blog might not be growing. These are important to understand because if you don’t know what’s wrong- you won’t know how to fix it!

So let’s break it down.

1. Poor SEO Optimization

SEO (AKA Search Engine Optimization) is the backbone of getting organic traffic to your blog.

Without it, your posts won’t rank in search engines like Google or even on platforms like Pinterest, which we’ll talk about later.

Without proper SEO, even the most amazing content can get lost in the sea of the internet.

Common mistakes bloggers make:

  • Not researching or using the right keywords.
  • Forgetting to add meta descriptions or alt text for images.
  • Missing opportunities for internal and external linking.

Not sure what any of that means? I got you!

  • Not researching or using the right keywords

I’m sure you’ve probably heard of keywords but just in case you haven’t, keywords are the phrases that people look up to answer a question. That is what people will use to find your blog post.

And if you’re using the wrong ones, your post will never get found! In fact, that actually happened with this post right here!

Before I updated to post to what you’re reading now, it used to be called “The 7 Reasons Why Your Blog Isn’t Growing”

But when I went through and began updating my blog after I learned how to actually grow a blog, I realized this post wasn’t getting any views!

So, I hopped onto Pinterest to figure out why.

And, as it turns out, I was using the wrong keywords!

No one was searching for “why your blog isn’t growing” and I knew this because my pin was actually ranking first for this term!

… And it had ZERO IMPRESSIONS!

A close up of my pin, showing zero impressions, engagement and saves.

This automatically tells me that NO ONE is searching for this term, and therefore not finding the blog post, which isn’t what we want!

So if you are looking for a blog post idea, head over to Pinterest and look up your idea. Word it in a few different ways, and see what comes up.

How can you tell if it’s a good blog post idea to write about? Check and see how many keyword bubbles show up under the search term:

A Pinterest search for "Grow your blog traffic" showcasing keywords Pinterest is suggesting.

As you can see here, there are actually keywords showing up whereas before, there were none. So this is a good indication of what you should be writing about!

All of these “bubbles” are keywords you can use to determine the direction of your blog post. And then, once you have the keywords you want to use, make sure you are adding them in the right places! Such as,

  • Your blog post title
  • Meta description and alt tags
  • The first paragraph of your blog post specifically
  • Naturally throughout your blog post
  • Your blog post URL

Doing all of this will help you rank on Google, and Pinterest and grow your blog traffic!

2. Not posting enough to your blog

The other problem with your blog not growing could be you just aren’t posting enough! If you’re not posting regularly, it’s hard to build momentum, and readers may forget about your blog.

Consistency builds trust and signals to search engines that your site is active, which helps with rankings. So here’s what you should do to grow your blog traffic and begin posting more.

  • Decide on a posting schedule

Everyone will have a posting schedule that works for them. Some can post once a week, others multiple times and some can only post bi-weekly.

It really depends on you, your goals, and how much time you have to dedicate to your blog.

I try to post once a week and have a blog post that matches with at least one YouTube video a week since my YouTube channel is my primary focus and one of the ways I grow my blog traffic!

When you set up a blogging schedule that works for you, create a blog content calendar to keep track of all your ideas and plan out what you’ll post when.

I personally use Asana for all my blogging and business plans. It has been a fantastic tool for keeping everything organized!

3. Not leveraging Pinterest for more blog traffic

Pinterest is a goldmine for blog traffic, yet many bloggers don’t fully capitalize on its potential. And what many don’t know is that Pinterest is a search engine, and you can get massive, passive traffic sent to your blog — if you use it right.

Why It Matters:

  • Pinterest is used by millions of people every day to search for ideas, tutorials, and products — including blog content.
  • If you aren’t pinning regularly or optimizing your pins for search, you’re missing out on a huge traffic opportunity.

There is so much to go over when talking about Pinterest, and if you want to hear all the juicy step-by-step details, you need to check out my course Pinterest Simplicity. But let’s start with the basics here.

  • Create click-worthy pins for every post

Whenever I publish a new blog post, I’ll always create 3-4 pin images for it like the one below:

How to Grow Your Blog Traffic (And What’s Stopping It) pin

But, that is not the only time I create pin images for posts!

Once a week (usually on Sunday) I go in and create 2-5 pin images for new and old blog posts. I have a whole strategy for this process explained in Pinterest Simplicity.

Once I create the images for about 5-10 blog posts, I pin them all to Pinterest using proper SEO strategies, like we talked about earlier.

This entire process only takes me about an hour to do!

And this is where my course, Pinterest Simplicity comes in. I’ve spent years perfecting my Pinterest strategy and not just for myself!

I have worked with countless bloggers, e-commerce clients, and business owners to leverage Pinterest in order to grow their business. With my most popular clients being bloggers.

Inside the course, you’ll learn how to;

  • Start your first Pinterest account (or update your current one)
  • Learn Pinterest SEO
  • Create eye-catching pins that will drive massive traffic to your blog
  • My 1hr a week pinning strategy that will bring in results!

These are some of the insane results my clients have seen by using this strategy!

My Pinterest client results showing less than 30 day results and the client growing 19,500% in outbound clicks, 26,400% in engagements and 5,713% in Impressions.

Actionable Tips to Grow Your Blog Traffic

So we’ve talked about reasons why your blog might not be growing, and within that I’ve given you steps to grow your blog traffic.

For a mini recap, you can grow your blog traffic by;

  • Focusing on proper SEO
  • Posting more blog content
  • Creating pins on Pinterest for more traffic

But those are not the only things you can do to grow your blog traffic! So let’s talk a bit more about growing your blog traffic.

1. Create shareable, high-quality content

You know you need to post more, but it’s important that the content you’re posting is still high-quality! Content is king. It’s the bread and butter of your blog.

If you’re not creating posts that people want to read, share, and link to, it’s going to be hard to grow your blog traffic.

So let’s talk about creating content a bit deeper.

  • Write posts that solve your audience’s problems

The point of a blog post is to solve a problem or answer a question someone has. So you need to make sure every blog post you write does just that.

It may seem simple on the surface, but I have seen so many Pinterest clients come to me with blog posts that just simply do not do that.

So when you come up with a blog post idea, ask yourself.

  • Who would want to read this post?
  • What problem are they having, and am I solving it?
  • What would someone look up to find this blog post?

All these questions are important in their own way because you want to know who your audience is, so you’ll want to know what type of person would want to read this post.

You want to make sure your blog post solves a problem, and you want to make sure you know what someone would look up in order to find it. That last part is super important.

If you’re writing a blog post about a question no one has (Like I originally did with this post!) you’ll meet the same fate I did- no one read my post.

Until I did a bit of keyword research on Pinterest, and realized that no one was searching for the question I had answered. So, I readjusted the post to match keywords people were actually searching for, and then I saw the traffic increase!

The bottom line is, when thinking of a blog post idea, make sure the question you are answering is one people are actually asking! And make sure you know what they are asking so you can position it correctly!

If you want to watch a video talking about why no one is reading your blog posts, check that video out below!

2. Use Pinterest to drive traffic to your blog

Heading back to Pinterest for just a second, make sure you are using this platform! I can not stress enough how powerful Pinterest is for bloggers!

I have seen what Pinterest can do through direct work I’ve done with clients and indirect work I’ve done from results my students have gotten out of taking Pinterest simplicity.

So don’t sleep on Pinterest!!

Here’s how to use Pinterest effectively:

  • Pin new content regularly and keep your pins fresh.
  • Create multiple pins for each blog post, using different keywords.
  • Use Pinterest Analytics to see what’s working and what’s not, and adjust your strategy accordingly.

If you’re unsure where to start, check out Pinterest Simplicity which walks you through the entire process, from setting up your profile to creating pins that drive traffic.

3. Build an email list

While this won’t bring instant traffic, growing an email list will help you retain visitors and bring them back to your blog.

I personally have my email list through Kit (Formerly known as Convertkit) and I love the platform! It was made by a blogger for bloggers and it’s so easy to use.

In order to start building an email list, you can offer a freebie (like a checklist, guide, or ebook) in exchange for your reader’s emails.

And then you can send regular updates, offers, and products to your list, or in our case- an update every time you write a new blog post!

This will help you not only bring traffic back to your blog and create repeat readers, but it’ll build trust and hopefully turn some of those readers into customers when you start trying to make money blogging!

Quick Recap

So, why isn’t your blog growing?

Maybe it’s poor SEO, inconsistency in posting, or a lack of attention to Pinterest. But the good news is, that you can turn things around by optimizing your content, focusing on SEO, posting consistently, and leveraging Pinterest for traffic.

By implementing these strategies and using the resources available (like my Pinterest course), you can start driving more traffic to your blog — and see the growth you’ve been waiting for.
