Pinterest monthly views dropping? Don’t panic!

You log in, check your Pinterest stats, and your monthly views have dropped again. It’s frustrating, especially if you’ve been pinning consistently and following all the “rules.”

Pinterest traffic naturally goes through ups and downs. Most of the time, there’s a clear reason behind the dip, and many of them are completely normal.

Let’s break down why your views are dropping, what it actually means, and what to do next to keep growing your blog traffic!

What are Pinterest monthly views? Are they important?

You likely have seen your Pinterest monthly views before because this number is live on your profile for anyone to see.

This number shows you how many times your published pins and pins from your claimed domain (AKA your blog) were on screen in the past 30 days.

In other words, it shows the overall reach and visibility of your content.

Do your Pinterest monthly views even matter?

No, not really.

Monthly views don’t tell the whole story.

They show how visible your content is, but they don’t tell you how many people clicked or engaged. So while a drop in views might look scary, what matters way more is what’s happening after people see your pins.

Clicks, saves, and engagement are the real metrics to watch, especially outbound clicks to your blog.

Your Pinterest monthly views are decreasing because of seasonal changes

Pinterest is the perfect place for evergreen content, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t seasonal changes on the platform.

One of the biggest reasons you might see your Pinterest monthly views decreasing is due to seasonal trends and fluctuations in trends.

Seasonal viewer habits

Some of the main reasons why you might see your Pinterest monthly views decreasing are due to the back-to-school season, Summer, and Winter holidays.

When those times are happening, people are on Pinterest less. They’re either on vacation or navigating a new routine when kids go back to school.

80% of Pinterest users are women, and therefore mothers, so they are spending more time offline and with their families/kids!

So the first question you need to ask yourself when you see your Pinterest monthly views are dropping is, what season is it? This is the most common reason!

Pinterest seasonal algorithm changes

The other reason you might be seeing a decrease is the changes to the Pinterest algorithm during certain seasons.

Pinterest does a really good job at catering the recommended pins to what people might want to see during a certain time, for example, Christmas.

So, a few months before the season starts, you’ll see a shift in what Pinterest users are looking up and what might be showing up on the feed. And if you’re not creating seasonal content, you’re going to see a decrease in views!

What you should do about it

If you suspect your Pinterest views are decreasing due to seasonal changes, how do you fix it? You have two options, depending on what kind of content you create.

  1. Change content with the seasons

If you can tailor your content to ride the wave of the seasons, do that.

Create Christmas content, Fall/Halloween content- change up what you pin based on the upcoming season or holiday.

And to ensure you’re pinning early enough, check out the Pinterest Trends tool.

This tool will show you when certain terms start to pick up traction, and you want to pin them BEFORE they hit their peak. That way, Pinterest has some time to categorize, distribute, and rank your pins in time for the peak season.

You can find the Pinterest Trends tool in the top navigation bar on Pinterest.

Let’s look at an example. If you create posts around Christmas crafts, you’ll see it start to pick up traction in October:

Pinterest Trends tool- Christmas crafts keyword

So this would be the ideal time to start pinning your Christmas content!

2. Ride out the dip

If the other problem you’re facing is the Summer slump, then you just have to ride it out! The good news is, these dips don’t happen forever, and they happen to everyone.

So in this case, all you can do is keep pinning your amazing content, and when people come back inside after the season is over, you’ll have a lot of content for people to find!

A viral pin is dying off

When you are analyzing your Pinterest stats, did you have a pin that was going viral and is suddenly dying off? That could be a cause for a decrease in Pinterest views.

Sometimes Pinterest stops pushing pins that were doing really well.

Maybe it was a seasonal pin or just one that had run its course. Or your pin could have gotten pushed out of the ranking by other pins. All normal occurrences.

Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Other pins are getting pushed instead

Sometimes, a pin has just run its course. Pinterest loves fresh pins and designs. So you can’t always expect your old pin from years ago to keep doing well!

The best thing to do in this case is to analyze the pin and try to decipher exactly what caused the pin to do so well in the hopes that you can replicate it.

In some cases, a pin going viral may just be luck. So you’ll need to look at other pins for context, and there may be a pattern in terms of design, topic, keywords, etc…

If it was a seasonal pin, there is a good chance the season is just over, and it may end up picking back up again next year!

The good news about Pinterest is that pins can take off at any time, especially seasonal ones. So just because the pin is going down in impressions now, does not mean it won’t pick back up again once it’s in season.

So you just have to be patient in this case and wait for the season to be over.

2. You changed the link or deleted the post

One thing that can really mess up a pins traction is if something changed with it. It’s important to not change your blog links or delete posts that are doing well because your pins will lose traction from a broken link.

So if you ever decide to edit blog posts, make sure to keep the link the same! Or use something like the Rank Math plugin to redirect the link and make sure it won’t break when someone clicks on it.

What you should do about it

In this case, there really isn’t much you can do about a viral pin losing traffic. The best solution is to keep pinning and doing what you know works in the hopes that you might get another viral pin later!

It’s so much fun to watch a pin pop off and do well for years, but everything good must come to an end, and this is one of those things!

You’re using outdated pinning strategies and need an update!

Pinterest is always evolving. If your impressions are dropping, it could be a sign that your strategy needs a refresh.

If you’re ready for a full Pinterest reset and want step-by-step help, my course Pinterest Simplicity walks you through what’s working now, without the overwhelm.

You’ll learn how to grow your account and finally drive traffic to your blog again!

But if you want to start with a few quick updates, here’s what to focus on:

Strategy & consistency:

  • Pin regularly (inactivity can cause dips)
  • Target updated keywords that reflect current search trends
  • Add fresh boards and remove inactive ones (except for seasonal boards)

Pin design & optimization:

  • Try new pin styles, layouts, and color palettes
  • Search your main keywords and model what’s ranking now
  • Recreate designs based on your past top-performing pins
  • Continue adding new links to your site as often as possible

Small changes can lead to big gains over time—just keep testing and evolving with the platform.
