why you should start a blog

This post contains affiliate links. This means I will make a commission at no extra cost to you should you click through and make a purchase. Read the full disclosure here.

Maybe you’ve been going back and forth with yourself about if you should start a blog. It sounds like fun but you have no idea where to start.

I’ll be the first to admit, starting a blog is hard work, however, it was also one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

If you’ve been on the fence about starting a blog, let me be the one to convince you to pull the trigger and get started!

Some people start blogs to share their story such as;

  • Weightloss journey (health and wellness blog)
  • Mom expertise (mom blog)
  • Workout journey (fitness blog)
  • Mental health/ illness journey/ recovery

Some people use blogs as a diary or to track their own journey. It’s a great way to keep themselves accountable for their diets/workout routines. Or as an inspiration/ help for other people recovering from things like bad mental health or just having a new baby.

Of course, these are just some examples but it will help you get the idea.

Some people start hobby blogs, and they never really plan to make any money from it. Its a totally okay way to handle a blog!

In fact, lots of bloggers start out blogs just for sharing their passion with friends and family!

A good way to make sure you are in blogging for the long run is by picking a topic you’re passionate about.

Picking something you can’t stop talking about will;

  • Give you endless topics to write about
  • The motivation and excitement to keep going
  • The passion for your topic which will show through in your writing

It’s important that you don’t start a blog just because you want to make a quick buck. Because as I’ve said many times before blogging is not a “get rich quick scheme.” It’s a 3-part marathon, not a quick sprint race. There is so much that goes into blogging for profit!

Did you know you can actually make money from blogging? When I found that out, I was so on board!

Don’t be fooled though, making money from blogging is not easy. However, it is doable!

There are a lot of ways you can make money blogging such as ads, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, and of course, making your own product.

The first way I recommend is putting ads on your site. This will be a good start to passive income. But, this will be a very slow income when you first start out since you have very little views.

If you’d like to know the best way to start making a significant income, I recommend affiliate marketing!

Affiliate marketing is when you recommend a product you have used to your readers. If someone clicks your special link and buys the product, you get a commission!

Affiliate marketing is more than just slapping links on your site and calling it a day, however.

You have to be dedicated for a long time. If you want to make this your full-time gig, you’ll need to treat it as a full-time job!

  • You have to put in the hours, research, and hard work to make this work!
  • You have to be prepared to work without profit for a while
  • Be prepared to be your own boss. You have to motivate yourself because no one else will!

There are so many challenges that come from running a blog but if you’re prepared for everything, you can totally do it!

There are many, many blogs out there that are dedicated to teaching new bloggers how to affiliate market. I would know, I’ve tried just about all of them! You’re welcome to try as well!

However, there is a lot of bad advice out there, which I learned quickly as well. Personally, reading all of the free resources out there didn’t help me very much! In fact, it may have confused me more!

That’s why I finally signed up for the course Mastering Sales With Ell! After going through her course and learning the methods, I made my very first affiliate sale in just two short months!

After a lot of unsuccessful marketing, I finally was able to make a sale! I will always recommend her course and if you want to get on the fast track to money-making, I suggest you try it out as well!

  1. I’d love to start a blog, my main niche being herbs (then hopefully incorporating health and wellness, and spirituality) however, I only know so much as I am still in school to become a Master Herbalist/Traditional Naturopath… I have seen you say not to start a blog that you don’t know much about but I feel it is a huge passion of mine.

I’d love to create products one day using herbs… what are your thoughts?

    1. Honestly, this is an outdated post and my thinking has changed! While it isn’t a good idea to start a blog on a topic you know nothing about, I feel like you would know enough to start a blog in your specific case. Especially if it is a passion of yours, and something you are going to school for. I think you should start the blog anyway! If you keep waiting for the “right time” or “enough knowledge” you’ll be waiting forever!

I am sure this post has touched all the internet viewers, its really really pleasant article on building up new webpage.
I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours lately, yet I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours.

It’s pretty price enough for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the internet can be much more helpful than ever

    1. Hey! My business email is businesswomenthrive@gmail.com, or you can find my contact page at the top of the page under “Contact us”

  4. I believe the best blogs start because someone has something to say. I had something to say so I said it, and have been sharing ever since. I have found so many people who can nod their heads at what I have to say and even those who shake their heads and challenge me to say what I have to say in their language.

For me, money comes as a side. If I do make money writing, I will be happy. If I do not, I am happy as well.
