I think we can all agree, it’s a good idea to try and make your life easier this year!

And it doesn’t have to be anything drastic or be some huge change, there are a lot of small ways you can make your life easier this year.

You can improve your career, self-care techniques, eating habits, workout routines, relationships, and more!

Just a few easy habits you can add to your everyday life!

And while I don’t think we need to be constantly or obsessively changing every aspect of ourselves all the time (It’s always good to love ourselves as we are!) A little self-improvement can’t hurt!

If you don’t know where to start, I get it!

It can be hard to come up with small ways to make your life easier, or just better in some way.

That’s why I’ve compiled this list of 12 small ways you can start to make your life easier!

And it’s also a good idea to track your progress as well.

I prefer to do this in a bullet journal or notebook so I can see how much I’ve accomplished!

This is my favorite notebook to use if you want to also keep track, and even motivate yourself to keep going!

1. Clean your house before bed

You don’t exactly have to do a complete deep clean of the house, but I find I feel better when I

  • Pick up the things I used for the day and put them away
  • Get the dishes out of the sink and load the dishwasher
  • Do any small task of tidying the house

It doesn’t take long to do either, maybe 10 or so minutes of looking around and picking things up.

Our environment influences us more than we realize, and having a mess around at all times can affect mood, productivity, and our general mood!

Have you ever had an extended stay out of your house for a vacation or maybe spent the night at a friend’s?

If you leave the house a mess, it can feel a bit depressing to come back to your place in that state!

The same can go for waking up in the morning.

It will be nice to know your house is a bit cleaner than it was, and you won’t wake up to a mess in the morning!

2. Journal

Journaling, or writing in general, is one of the ways you can fully express yourself.

It’s a great way to get all of your thoughts onto paper and really work through any situations or emotions you may be having.

I find that I’ve learned a lot about myself through journaling.

Trauma I’m working through that I didn’t even know was there, triggers that I have, and even harmful subconscious beliefs that I have!

You can learn a lot about yourself and what you need to work on to make your life easier or better through journaling.

If you need a new journal, this is one of my favorites.

3. Have a relaxing shower routine

Buy a sweet-smelling shampoo and conditioner you love, put on your favorite music and just relax!

One of the biggest and simplest ways you can make your life better is by taking care of yourself first.

And I find a good way to do that is to have a calm, relaxing shower routine.

I recently bought a new shower & conditioner set that I love, I’ve also been putting on nice-smelling lotion afterward and taking care of any other hygiene things at the same time.

Bonus points if you put a towel in the dryer so it’s warm when you come out of the shower!

4. Take a self-care day

This can also be a continuation of the last idea if you want!

Brush out and style your hair, brush your teeth, put on a face mask, or do whatever you like to do! Make it a whole thing- treat yourself!

It’s true that self-care days lead you to be more productive!

There are so many ways you can give yourself a self-care day and the best part is, there is no wrong way to do it!

If you don’t want to sit in a bubble bath with wine and a good book, (This is the one I’m currently reading!) and your self-care day looks like going out for pizza and bowling with friends- then freaking do it!

Maybe you want to take a shower, pamper yourself, shave your legs and climb into freshly washed sheets with a romantic comedy (Honestly sounds amazing!)

Whatever self-care means for you, take a day and do it!

5. Downsize your wardrobe & organize

if you are guilty of having way too many clothes and holding on to ones that don’t fit, maybe it’s time for a clothes detox!

I recently just went through this myself and it honestly felt great

Not only do I not have clothes all over my room anymore, but I was able to wash everything I own and put it away!

Once you do this, you can confidently know that all of the clothes in your wardrobe fit and they belong there.

Plus, you can donate all the clothes you don’t want!

The downside to this is once everything is organized, you may not have enough room for all your clothes.

I just went out and bought this cube organizer shelf to fit all of my clothes with white, gold, and pink storage cubes. I love the look of it!

5. Go on a shopping spree

This is now the second part of downsizing your wardrobe, and let’s be honest, the real reason you did it in the first place…

Now you can fill your wardrobe back up with clothes you actually like! Ones that you fit into and are going to make you feel confident to wear.

I know this may make some people feel awful because they either need to upsize their clothes or downsize, depending on who they are.

I get that.

I am not a fan of clothes shopping because nothing ever seems to fit right!

But remember, the size of your clothes does not define who you are and you are beautiful and valid no matter what number is on the tag.

find clothes that make you feel good- no matter what size.

7. Plan out your days

Sometimes it’s nice to just go with the flow, with no pressure.

But if you want to make your life easier, you sometimes need to plan out your day!

I like to make this part of my morning routine.

I write down everything I want to do for the day in my planner and usually like to plan out my week as well.

This will help you stay on track to meeting your goals and ensure that you can make your life easier by having everything planned out!

8. Create a weekly meal plan

While we’re planning things out, it will definitely make your life easier to create a meal plan for the week!

If you’re very bad at cooking meals at your house because you never know what to make, I get it.

But if every day at 6:00pm you forget you have to have dinner again, and the chicken isn’t thawed so you order takeout or cook a box of mac and cheese... maybe it’s time to get more organized!

(Don’t worry, I’m also super calling myself out as well!)

Open a cookbook and look at all the options you have, then you can check the ingredients you need for weekly/bi-weekly shopping and make sure you have everything you need for the week ahead!

This meal planner and grocery list combo work great for planning meals!

9. Create a “grab and go” meal binder

This is something I did a while back and it has been a lifesaver.

If you don’t have the time to look through 5 different cookbooks for the one meal you want, create an easy “grab and go” meal binder!

It’s essentially a binder I create using this 3-ring binder where I keep all of my favorite meals and recipes written down.

This makes it so much easier because it’s essentially your own custom cookbook!

You can include all of your favorite meals from as many cookbooks as you want!

It saves so much time.

10. Try a meal delivery service

If planning your meals each week and shopping for the ingredients is too much for you, you can also make your life easier and try a meal delivery service.

I tried Hello Fresh during the pandemic and it was honestly the greatest thing ever.

Pre-packaged meals came to your door every week, perfectly portioned with all the ingredients you needed.

And they were fresh ingredients too. Fresh veggies, and meat (vegetarian options were available too).

The portions were great, and even though it was a lot of packaging, most of that was recyclable too! So it was environmentally friendly.

You got recipe cards each week, which you could keep for future use, (Many of them are in my “grab and go” book!) and you could try new meals every week because they were always changing!

It was amazing and the moment I can go back to them- I will! Because the only problem I had with them was how expensive it could get!

11. Organize your fridge

One of the things I am famous for doing is buying fresh veggies, with the intention of eating healthy, and then forgetting about them until they go bad!

One of the ways you can make your life easier and avoid this from happening is by using these clear plastic fridge organizers.

That way, everything is not only organized, but it’s easy to see as well!

This also works well with meal prep. You could label the containers with the days of the week so you know what you’ll be having.

12. Organize your pantry

The same thing can be said for your pantry. With so many things being stored there, it can be hard to see everything!

So, you can make your life a little easier and buy some storage for your pantry.

Get a lazy Susan spice rack to make everything easier to see or these pantry organizers to keep everything together.
